Stance on AI

Artificial Intelligence is reshaping industries across the economic spectrum. Recent developments in AI capabilities have made AI genuinely useful for individuals, businesses, and governments by increasing productivity and democratizing production pipelines. As a result, many organizations are investing heavily in AI and incorporating it into their daily workflows. In the carbon project diligence sector, most companies are now experimenting with AI to facilitate their work in several ways, be it computer engineering infrastructure, geospatial analyses, processing documentation, or increasingly, writing reports. While AI can indeed be a powerful tool, it is EldHollow's stance that AI cannot replace a human being. 

EldHollow currently uses AI for just two things: coding assistance and copy-editing reports. AI is excellent at coding large, complicated workflows in a short amount of time, and EldHollow uses direct prompts and many iterations to instruct AI on how to facilitate our codebase. Our geospatial analysis pipeline is derived from the latest peer-reviewed literature and is constantly updated as new science and data become available. EldHollow's reviews are copy-edited by AI, but they are originally drafted by our scientists. AI does a good job identifying typos and making technical language sound more professional and accessible, but it cannot replace human intuition or sift through the nuance of a carbon project.

EldHollow will never use AI to draft reviews or take project quality assessments out of our scientists' hands. Carbon offset projects, particularly nature-based projects, are too complicated and nuanced to rely on AI to make critical decisions regarding project quality. Add to that, many clients have specific risk profiles they want our reviews to address, and we will not rely on AI to interpret those risk profiles or derive conclusions on project quality based off of them. 

EldHollow will also never communicate to clients via AI. If clients wish to ask us questions, whether its about a review we've written or anything else, they can reach out to us and ask us directly. 

A day may come when AI can conduct project diligence on its own like that of a human...but it is not this day.
